CORALVILLE — Two medical marijuana companies involved in Iowa’s flagging medical marijuana program are competing to open a dispensary in Coralville.

The Des Moines-based MedPharm Iowa and Waterloo-based Iowa Cannabis Co. are seeking a medical cannabidiol dispensary license in Coralville from the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Coralville Mayor John Lundell has written a letter of support for MedPharm Iowa, and Coralville City Administrator Kelly Hayworth has written one for Iowa Cannabis Co., though Lundell and Hayworth said they don’t have a preference for which company gets the license. read more

Marco Island City Council approved unanimously ballot language for an ordinance which prohibits cultivating, manufacturing, warehousing, distributing and selling recreational marijuana.

The vote took place May 18 following the efforts of a local political action committee to get enough signatures to put the ordinance on the ballot.

State and federal law currently prohibit recreational marijuana.

The Ban Recreational Marijuana PAC acquired “almost twice” the amount of signatures required to move the ordinance forward, according to its Chairperson Edgar “Ed” Issler. read more
