Learn how to easily decarboxylate cannabis with less smell and make cannabutter in less than 5 hours! This Easy Almost Odourless Cannabutter Recipe uses the Mason Jar Method to decarb in the oven and infuse the butter using a sous vide or crockpot.
28 grams cannabis, finely ground
1 lb or 2 cups melted butter, salted
1 Preheat oven to 220°F.
2 Weigh out the cannabis in a mason jar. Place a piece of tinfoil on top and secure with the metal ring.
3 Decarboxylate in the oven for a total of 40 minutes. Give the jar a shake every 10 minutes. SET A TIMER.
4 Remove the jar and allow it to cool. Do not place it on a cold surface or the jar may crack from the rapid temperature change.
5 Secure sous vide to a pot and fill with water. Set it to 200°F. If using a crockpot, fill the pot halfway with water, line it with a dish towel and set the crockpot to low.
6 Once the jar has cooled, remove the ring and foil. Pour in the melted butter. Replace the foil and ring.
7 Place the jar into the sous vide water or crockpot and make sure the waterline comes up to the butter line of the jar.
8 Infuse for at least 4 hours. Be sure to check the waterline and top up as necessary throughout the 4 hours as water will evaporate.
9 Remove the jar from the water after the 4 hours & allow the jar to cool enough to handle. Line another clean mason jar with cheesecloth, creating a well deep enough to hold all of the plant material. Secure the cheesecloth with the metal ring.
10 Pour the liquid cannnabutter into the cheesecloth-lined jar, stopping to allow it to filter through so it does not flow over the top. Allow the butter to drain until it stops dripping.
11 Remove the ring and squeeze out the extra butter that is still in the cheesecloth. *SAVE THE PLANT MATTER FOR A SECOND PULL.* See Directions after this recipe.
12 Pour the liquid Cannabutter into a mold and allow it to cool to a solid-state before transferring into the fridge.
13 Once chilled, demold or leave it in the container until you are ready to use it! Store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
WHAT IS A SECOND PULL?!
After squeezing out the extra butter that was trapped in the cheesecloth and plant matter, there will still be more butter in there. Place the plant matter filled cheesecake cloth over another clean jar, secure with the ring and pour hot water over the top while stirring the plant matter around. Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water.
Once you are satisfied you got most of the butter out, place the jar in the fridge and the butter will solidify on top. Remove and pat dry with a paper towel.
At this point you can use the leftover plant matter in a tea strainer to add any Cannabutter that is still in there to your tea or coffee, add to a smoothie or compost it. Up to you!
